I have long been interested in the concept of combining art form with utility.  I like the idea of making things that are useful as well as pleasing or beautiful.  And I have always liked using my hands.  This combination naturally evolved into my lifelong interest and pursuits in arts and crafts.

I have found myself especially intrigued with designing on fabric as a basis for textures, lines and forms.  I began with batik and have experimented with many techniques and materials on cloth, most recently with silk.  I usually use blank scarves and at times garments such as t-shirts.  I find myself continuing to explore the application of new techniques and combinations of techniques to create surfaces that are more complicated and unique.

I am attracted to more abstract design but am also drawn to whimsical forms and forms from nature. which I incorporate into the design.  I find the results of working on fabric exciting because although in the interaction of the dyes and chemicals you have a general idea of what to expect, after the final process the surprises can be wonderful.
